About Borderline Personality Disorder
If your girl is struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder (a mental health illness also referred to as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder), she is likely to encounter things (or people) in extremes, something (someone) just perfect one day can be atrocious the next; very black and white thinking. This might find her taking risks in her actions (in food consumption, spending habits, promiscuous sex), with numerous displays of unsuitable rage, self-harming or suicidal behavior.
The causes for BPD are not definitive but as with other personality disorders, contributors are believed to be a combination of environmental, genetic and brain chemistry. Higher risk might be attributed to a close family member who has the disorder, or from childhood abuse or neglect. We can help your teen with Borderline Personality Disorder, in which she might display self-hatred, unrelenting instability in her interpersonal relationships, self-image and demeanor, atypical depth and variation of moods, possibly triggered by perceived rebuff or failure. BDP might leave her excessively sensitive to being criticized, with opinions of others subject to rapid shifts and changes, and her own sense of unimportance leading to reckless behavior.
New Lifehouse – How We Can Help Your Girl with Borderline Personality Disorder
If BDP is not treated, your girl potentially faces severe complications related to relationship troubles and isolation, fiscal or legal problems, many of those related connected to life-controlling issues. Certain medications are sometimes successful, although they are not a normal part of the protocol. Treatment (which is primarily therapy-based) can be problematical, as there must be a great deal of trust between your teen and her therapist, something often difficult to achieve because of the extreme mood swings. Treatment methods might include interpersonal therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic therapy.
