This has been known to be the setting in which teenagers experience the highest measure of success. If your teenager is exhibiting depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, or substance abuse problems, our program’s staff is able to address these struggles and help them to heal.    Creating comfortable and relaxed school is essential for conducive therapy. If girls do not feel at-home and cared for, they are not as willing to be as honest as they need to be. Our campus and therapists will address the core issues that are leading to dysfunctional and problematic behaviors.

Girls struggling in school can also find emotional and behavioral success with correct support and mentoring.

The scholastic program taught at New Lifehouse Academy is especially created with troubled teens in mind. We understand that dysfunctional teens usually have lagged behind in schoolwork and are in need of specific academic support. They need to get caught up and back on track. Although academic achievement is, of course, the ideal, this program is created to address the particular emotional and behavioral needs of troubled teenagers.     For troubled girls, counseling is necessary to change dysfunctional thought patterns that are at the root of many of the issues teens are facing. Only focusing on surface issues like actions and school will not be enough in terms of shaping a true, lifelong turnaroun in these girls. In fact, once the emotional and spiritual elements of these teenager’s difficulties are addressed, they often straighten out in other areas, like academics and behavior. Moreover, they need months of time to practice their new thinking, in an environment where their missteps are pointed out.

Substance abuse among teenagers in Skokie, Illinois can be a overwhelming problem. For non-addictive behaviors, we can help!

Girls involved with substance abuse or who are experiencing emotional issues will commonly avoid physical activities, which are good and natural for them. At HLHA, we encourage a re-kindling of their God-given interest in fitness and the outdoors. Keeping teens physically challenged gains health and self-esteem, which are crucial additions to the therapy students experience.    Girls at this facility also learn applicable, practical work skills. This teaches responsibility and integrity, as well as increasing self-esteem. The girls discover to match work and fun, creating a reliable and healthy work ethic and lifestyle. This carries on into their life after their time here, letting them to become useful, productive members of society.    Within NLHA’s safe and supportive program, girls are able to build principles, and find God. This is the only proven technique for teens to eradicate the selfishness and self-centeredness that causes most of their dysfunctional patterns, from addiction to other conduct disorders. Within a supportive structure, and surrounded by helpful influences, students develop a new, healthy peer group that can hold them accountable and support them in their new, spiritual way of living.

At its peak in the mid 60s, 40% of the population was Jewish, the largest percent of any Chicago suburb. In recent years, however, Skokie’s population has become significantly more diverse and several Jewish synagogues and schools have closed. However, Skokie still has a very large Jewish population. It is home to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, which opened in northwest Skokie in 2009.
Skokie has received national attention twice for court cases decided by the United States Supreme Court. In the mid-1970s, Skokie was at the center of a case concerning the First Amendment right to assemble and the National Socialist Party of America, a neo-Nazi group. Skokie ultimately lost that case. In 2001, although Skokie was not a direct party to the case, a decision by the Village regarding land use led the Court to reduce the power of the United States Environmental Protection Agency Citation needed.
