Teenagers struggling in their academics can also discover emotional and behavioral recovery with correct support and mentoring.
The scholastic program taught at New Lifehouse Academy is uniquely designed with unhealthy teens in mind. We acknowledge that troubled teens usually have lagged behind in schoolwork and are in need of specialized academic repair. They need to get caught up and back on track. Although academic achievement is, of course, the goal, this program is structured to address the specialized emotional and behavioral needs of struggling teenagers. For troubled girls, counseling is essential to address dysfunctional thought patterns that underlie many of the issues teens are dealing with. Just dealing with surface issues like actions and education will not be enough in terms of effecting a genuine, lasting change in these girls. In fact, once the emotional and spiritual elements of these teenager’s difficulties are addressed, they often straighten out in other parts of their lives, like academics and behavior. Moreover, they need plenty of time to practice their new thinking, in an environment where their missteps are pointed out.
Substance abuse in teenagers in Old Hickory, Tennessee can be a devastating issue. For non-addictive behaviors, we can help!
Girls experimenting with substance abuse or who are undergoing emotional abnormalities will commonly avoid physical activities, which are healthy and natural for them. At HLHA, we encourage a regaining of their innate interest in exercise and the outdoors. Keeping teens physically challenged increases fitness and self-esteem, which are essential additions to the therapy students experience. Students at this school also learn applicable, practical work skills. This teaches trustworthiness and integrity, as well as increasing self-esteem. The girls learn to balance work and play, leading to a reliable and robust work ethic and lifestyle. This carries on into their life after graduation, letting them to become viable, productive members of society. Within NLHA’s safe and supportive program, girls are able to learn principles, and find God. This is the only effective strategy for teens to overcome the selfishness and self-centeredness that causes most of their problematic behaviors, from addiction to other behavioral disorders. Within a supportive structure, and surrounded by healthy influences, students develop a new, healthy peer group that will hold them accountable and influence them in their new, principled way of living.
