Teens who go to boarding schools for struggling girls inside their own home area are at a much higher risk of abandoning the program early, negating the benefits they might otherwise receive. Admitting your girl in a trustworthy, highly structured environment like HLHA, some distance away from Joplin, Missouri, is essential to correctly rehabilitating your troubled teenager.

Benefits for troubled teens can be found at HLHA’s all-girl boarding school.

New Lifehouse Academy is unlike other institutions in Missouri, in that it lacks the atmosphere of an institution, instead providing a caring, homelike atmosphere where children feel cared for and relaxed, while being closely supervised. This has been shown to be the background in which teenagers find the largest measure of success. If your teenager is suffering from depression, anxiety, lack of self-confidence, trauma, or drug and alcohol abuse problems, our program’s staff is able to face these problems and help them to heal.    Providing comfortable and relaxed school is crucial for successful therapy. If girls do not feel comfortable and cared for, they are not able to be as forthcoming as they need to be. Our campus and counselors will get to the root issues that are causing worrisome and problematic behaviors.

Teenagers struggling in their academics can also achieve emotional and behavioral recovery with proper support and mentoring.

The academic program taught at New Lifehouse Academy is uniquely built with unhealthy teens in mind. We recognize that dysfunctional teens typically have fallen behind in schoolwork and are in need of specific academic repair. They need to get caught up and back on track. Although academic achievement is, of course, the goal, this program is structured to cope with the unique emotional and behavioral needs of struggling teenagers.     For troubled girls, counseling is necessary to change dysfunctional thought cycles that are at the root of many of the problems teens are dealing with. Only dealing with surface issues like actions and school will not suffice in terms of shaping a genuine, enduring change in these teenagers. In fact, once the emotional and spiritual aspects of these teenager’s problems are treated, they tend to straighten out in other parts of their lives, including academics and behavior. Moreover, they need plenty of time to practice their new thinking, in a place where their missteps are pointed out.

Drug abuse in teenagers in Joplin, Missouri can be a crushing concern. For non-addictive behaviors, we can help!

Girls involved with substance abuse or who are experiencing emotional problems will often avoid physical recreation, which are healthy and appropriate for them. At HLHA, we encourage a re-kindling of their natural interest in exercise and the outdoors. Keeping teens physically active builds health and self-esteem, which are crucial additions to the counseling students experience.    Students at this facility also learn useful, real-life work skills. This teaches work ethic and honesty, as well as building self-esteem. The girls are taught to balance work and fun, leading to a reliable and robust work ethic and lifestyle. This goes on into their life after graduation, letting them to become useful, productive members of society.    Within NLHA’s safe and compassionate program, girls are able to build principles, and discover God. This is the only proven strategy for teens to be rid of the selfishness and self-centeredness that leads to most of their problematic behaviors, from addiction to other behavioral disorders. Within a supportive structure, and surrounded by good influences, students develop a new, healthy peer group that will hold them accountable and influence them in their new, moral way of living.

Although often believed to have been named for the ragtime composer Scott Joplin, who lived in Sedalia, Missouri, Joplin is named for Reverend Harris Joplin, an early settler and the founder of the area’s first Methodist congregation. Joplin was established in 1873 and expanded significantly from the wealth created by the mining of zinc; its growth faltered after World War II when the price of the mineral collapsed. The city gained travelers as Route 66 passed through it; “Joplin, Missouri” is among the lyrics to Bobby Troup’s legendary song, immortalizing the city among others on the famous highway.
On May 22, 2011, Joplin was struck by an extremely powerful EF-5 tornado, resulting in at least 160 deaths and more than 900 injuries, along with total destruction of thousands of houses, and severe damage to numerous apartments and businesses, St. John’s Medical Center, and multiple school buildings.
